Taylor Thomason, June Team Member of the Month

Taylor Thomason earned the June Team Member of the Month by showing leadership and clinical knowledge during a recent mass trauma and lockdown incident in the Solari Emergency Department at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital.

Emergency Department Director Janet Kaiser (DNP, MSN, RN, CEN, NE-BC, CHEC) nominated Taylor and said she “remained calm and professional, giving direction to her peers to accommodate the sudden influx of high-risk patients and initiating a lockdown to keep her co-workers, patients, and visitors safe from potential harm.”

Taylor further identified the need for help from additional departments and ensured all patients received the proper level and efficiency of care.

“Taylor consistently keeps patients and their families as the top priority and has received numerous patient compliments regarding the excellent care she provides,” Janet said.

Prior to joining the hospital two years ago, Taylor worked at the Coronary ICU at VCU/MCV Hospital in Richmond.

When asked for words of wisdom, Taylor said to “take every learning opportunity that you can to make yourself a better nurse to care for patients the best way you can.”

She lives with her husband, Brad, and son, Tate, in South Hill. She enjoys spending time with family.

In addition to the award certificate, Taylor received a STAR Service lapel pin, letter of commendation from Administration, and a parking place of her choice for the month.
